Beating Caribbean Stud poker is problematic at best, since the house edge on the game is pretty high, even if you play with perfect strategy. In fact, the game is comparable to roulette with its 5.3% edge. But Caribbean Stud poker is fun and does offer the opportunity to win a big progressive jackpot, so it's worth giving a try.

Caribbean Stud poker strategy is easier to learn than correct blackjack strategy too.

How to Beat Caribbean Stud Poker with an Easy Strategy

Basic Caribbean Stud poker strategy was developed and explained by mathematicians Peter Griffin and John M. Gwynn Jr. in a paper titled "An Analysis of Caribbean Stud Poker". The basic strategy can be summed up in a single sentence:

Always make the Bet wager when you have a hand of Ace - King - Jack - 8 - 3 or better.

Improve Your Odds of Beating Caribbean Stud Poker with this More Involved Strategy

Olaf Vancura offers 5 additional strategy rules that reduce the house edge by another 1/10 of 1%:

Always fold if you hold nothing.
Always make the Bet wager if you have a pair or better.
If you have Ace-King, make the Bet wager IF one of your other 3 cards matches the dealer's up card.
If you have Ace-King-Queen or Ace-King-Jack, make the Bet wager if one of your other 2 cards matches the dealer's up card.
Make the Bet wager if you hold Ace-King-Queen-x-y if the dealer's up card is less than x. (X is greater than Y in this strategy.)

(The above strategy is offered in Olaf Vancura's book Smart Casino Gambling. It's relatively simple, but at the same time, it's not as simple as the first strategy we offered, and it only gains you 0.1% over that strategy, so it might be easier and more fun just to go with the simpler strategy.)
